Pride of Ilocano

It started with a boom. The night sky was lit up with the colorful fireworks. The crowd was giddy with delight. The set of artists performed. Big speakers, loud music that made more the audience energetic. The atmosphere is full of happiness and joy. Opening of Kannawidan was indeed a success.
Everyday I go to school I always passed by the people who is exerting their efforts, working hard just to set-up, just to prepare the set location  (Tamag grounds) for Kannawidan. Working under the sun, lifting heavy materials, cleaning the area. They really made sure that everything is prepared. And yeah it is all worth it.
Ilocos Sur is a province that is rich in culture that represents the ancient Spanish and Filipino heritage. And to share and show these treasures Ilocano conceived the Kannawidan Festival that lasts  from the last week of January up to the third week of February. Yes, the purpose of this celebration is to highlight the cultural traditions that we have. But the question, do people know this, especially the teenagers like me?. Are you just going there to watch your favorite bands and artists?. To experienced the rides?, or to just eat?. I know because I am included to the people who just go there without knowing its true mission and I am very sorry for that. But now that I know what this is all about I will now change the reason why would I go there. I will now go there not to witness the artists performance but to see the beauty that our province  possess. I will also try to make other know this, to be an eye opener to make its purpose served.  Remember the presence of the invited perfomers are just a bonus, an extra entertainment to the audience.
Youth must know their province traditions, songs, dances, and other cultures, not only the trend and modern one.  But not only us, you, we all must not forget, continue to treasure, appreciate and keep it alive.

Let's be even handed

We were all created equally, meant to live our life fair. Man, women, gays, bisexuals, must be treated the same without unfairness or any  injustices.          Discrimination, humiliation, abuses, violence - the world is full of these. The  silent cries of agony, never ending pains, wound that doesn't stop from bleeding, the bruised that are hidden in the sleeves. Yes, even in our time now there  are  still these brutal acts. Don't we know the effects of these to the others?, maybe no? so there are still people doing it, or maybe yes? but we are just being selfish, self-centered, the feelings of others doesn't matter anymore or simply you are just being  a monster.      Let us open our eyes now, don't be afraid to fight for  our rights. No one can stamp, belittle, downgrade anyone. Everyone has a slot in this world, has a role that must fulfill and a hole that must fill.         ...
